The young, hummingbird Faunus saluted his superior as he stood in his office of Atlas Academy.

“(y/n) Schnee reporting for duty General Ironwood!” he proclaimed.

“At ease soldier,” the headmaster said. (y/n) relaxed his stance as he waited for the general to continue, “I’ve already heard from your commanders, you’ve done a marvelous job in eliminating our foes of the sky.”

“I simply do what’s required of me sir.”

“Good, we expect nothing but the best from you. After all, you are the son of the strong Winter Schnee.”

“I can assure you that I’ll do everything in my power to make sure my mother’s name isn’t tarnished by my actions.”

“Well said. I trust you must be tired from your mission, take a few days off, I’ll call for you when something comes up.”

“Thank you sir! Have a good afternoon sir.” (y/n) saluted again and left the room in a formal manner. Once he was out of the room, he groaned as he slouched, “Ugh, that was more tiring then the mission itself.”

(y/n) Schnee was the son of the famous Winter Schnee. Although they were not biologically related, someone, most likely his parents, had left him at the entrance of Atlas Academy, and Winter was the one who came across him. Something inside her stirred when she peered down his innocent face, a longing to protect this child from the harm this world could bring. Thus, she adopted him and became his mother. (y/n) showed great talent in fighting at a very young age, earning him a spot in Atlas Academy at only the age of fifteen and then graduating at the top of his class with a job as a pilot already open to him by seventeen.

To all his comrades and peers, he was the embodiment of a perfect student and Huntsman. However, there was just one thing they did not know: (y/n)’s real personality. He never liked how rugged and formal he had to act around everyone when deep down, he was reckless and hyperactive. When no one was looking, he would literally venture out into the wilderness and with his speed semblance go on adventures more dangerous than the missions he was sent on. There were times when he cut it close; like the time Winter found some of his clothes torn to shreds due to him letting loosing on a huge pack of Beowolves, he quickly dismissed it as having been ambushed on his last mission and was too embarrassed to admit it. Or the time he was bitten by a King Taigu, he had to endure the poison’s effects for weeks while keeping his appearance normal in front of his mother.

(y/n) sighed deeply, sure he was grateful to Winter for taking him in, but sometimes he wished she would let him have a little more freedom of being himself despite the name he now carried with him. Ruffling the feathers on his hummingbird tail, he turned to head home for some much needed rest. Walking through the courtyard, he did not notice the rainbow figured headed right his way.

“Ooiiiiii!!! Out of the way dude!!”

“Huh?” (y/n) had just barely turned around when something, or someone, collided against him, sending them both to the ground.

“Uggghhh.”

“Oh my gosh, are you ok!?”

(y/n) felt a huge weight on his chest and looked up, staring into the eyes of a rather interesting looking girl. Her red/pinkish hair was tied into four pigtails; she wore the Atlas school uniform, although it really didn’t seem to match her appearance; behind her was a long, pink cat tail, easily telling him that she was a Faunus; and instead of school shoes, on her feet she wore roller blades.

“What the-!? What the heck are you doing wearing those at the school!?” he asked loudly, pointing to her footwear.

“Huh? These? It makes getting around way more fun and fast~.”

“That’s not the issue here; you’ll hurt someone as well as yourself if you keep that up!”

“Geez, lighten up dude, if you ask me this school can really use some fun and a little bit of chaos.” It was that comment that stopped (y/n) from making a comeback at her. He secretly agreed with her, things around Atlas were far too stiff and serious, nothing like the way he really was. He sighed deeply and said, “Just make sure you don’t kill someone with those things.”

“Yeah yeah.”

The two Faunuses got up and dusted themselves off. That’s when the cat Faunus got a good look at him, “Hey, you a student here? I’ve never seen you around campus.”

(y/n) rolled his eyes, being one of the youngest pilots in the Atlas military did have its’ ups and downs, one of the downs being that people didn’t take him seriously due to his young age, at least until they find out who he really was.

“(y/n) Schnee, captain of the Atlas air force.”

“Whaaaaaaaat!!!?” the girl shrieked, “You, a Schnee and a captain!? You can’t be that much
older than me! How can’t this happen!!?”

Her high pitched yelled was really giving (y/n) a headache.

“Would you shut up please? You’re causing a scene,” he said, rubbing his ears and looking at the students who stopped at stared at the flamboyant student screeching her head off, “And you are?”

“Oh! Neon Katt! Nice to meet you!” She grasped his hand and gave it a good shake, making his upper body move as well.

“Oi! Just a small handshake would’ve sufficed!”

“Geez, you really need to loosen up dude. I know what you need! A night out on the town!”

“That’s completely immature and unprofessional.” Truth be told, that sounded like a great idea to (y/n) but he’s be damned if Ironwood, or worse Winter, caught him off in shenanigans rather than at home resting up from his mission like the honorable Schnee and captain he was.

“Oh my gosh, we’ve got so much work to do with you!” Neon grabbed his hand, “Come on, I know a really good party spot!”

“Ms. Katt, I already said n-.”

“Oh stop it with the formalities, just call me Neon!”

“That doesn’t-.” Clearly, (y/n) was not going to have a say in the matter, for Neon was already dragging him away from campus.

~0~

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” (y/n) mumbled upon seeing the entrance of a dance club. Neon only giggled, “Come on! Let’s get this party started!”

“As if! In case you didn’t notice, I’m still in my uniform!”

“Just take off your jacket, that’ll work.”

“Huh?”

“Man, you’re much stiffer then the headmaster,” Neon grabbed at his captain jacket and began to pull on it, “Take it off take it off take it off!!” she chanted

“Oi stop that!” but even with this order Neon didn’t cease her actions, if anything she just tugged on the fabric even harder to the point where (y/n) was sure that it would rip, “Ok ok! Quit it! I’ll take it off!” Huffing (y/n) stripped himself of his jacket uniform, folding it up nicely in his arms.

“Great! Now let’s go!!” Neon got behind (y/n) and pushed him into the club. He was surprised over how strong she was, especially since she was still wearing those rollerblades. The music blasting in the building made (y/n)’s ears ring until they almost went numb, people were either dancing in the middle of the room or hanging out at the bar located to the side. Neon led (y/n) to the bar first, “Hey dude!” she called out to the bartender, “Two of the usuals please!”

“Neon! How’s my favorite party girl?” the bartender asked, already working on her requested drinks.

“Great! Trying to help a certain stiff get his party on,” she said, tugging on (y/n)’s arm.

“Oh?” the man paused from his mixing to examine the said boy, “Interesting, he a classmate of yours?”

“Actually, he’s a captain of the Atlas military.”

The bartender paused in his mixing to give Neon an “are-you-serious!?” look, “Eh? This pipsqueak?” (y/n) glared, “I’d appreciate if you refrained from calling me that!” then he looked at Neon, “And aren’t you a little young to be in a place like this ordering drinks?”

“Oh my Oum! Haven’t you ever heard of ‘chilling’ in your life!?”

“Yes actually, but as a Schnee I-.”

“There you go again with your family name! So what if you’re part of the Schnee family? That shouldn’t stop you from enjoying life.”

(y/n) noticeably flinched. He has been telling himself that anytime he went out on an adventure, but this was the first time someone besides himself had said that to him. She expected some kind of retort from him, but Neon did not expect (y/n) to suddenly get all-quiet like that. He looked down at one of the pink drinks sitting on the counter of the bar, finally making a decision to himself; he picked up the glass and downed the sweet concoction in one gulp. He let out a relived gasp as he slammed the glass down on the mahogany counter.

“Ah~. That really hit the spot!” he said with a huge smile. Neon felt her cheeks instantly heat up. All (y/n) had on his face was a strict frown on his face, but now that it was turned upside-down; she couldn’t help but to think that he looked rather attractive. His face was already a bit flushed, telling everyone that he was an extreme lightweight. Nevertheless, he ordered the bartender to get him another to which he complied, scared of what would happen if he refused a captain’s orders. After drinking down the next one, (y/n) leaned against the counter, the tipsiness getting to him.

“Are you sure you should’ve let him do that?” the bartender asked Neon nervously.

“Oh please, he needs this.” Neon sipped her own drink and grabbed (y/n)’s hand, “Come on dude! The dance floor is waiting for us!” Not bothering to hear an approval or rejection, Neon pulled (y/n) to the dance floor, and to her surprise he immediately began to move his body to the beat of the music a bit sloppily, but it was clear that he really didn’t care due to the effects of alcohol. She herself did an array of moves on her skates, laughing gleefully from the fun she was having. The afternoon wore on into the evening, and (y/n) was currently seated at the bar nursing a buzzing headache.

“Ouch, I think I overdid it,” he mumbled to himself, rubbing his temple as he sipped the water to help the lingering effects of the alcohol.

“You were pretty wild out there, and I really don’t think it was truly the drink’s fault. You really showed a new side of yourself today.”

“Uhhh, well, it’s not exactly new to be honest.”

“Huh?” Neon’s tail twitched with confusion, “What do you mean?”

“I mean that I truly only act all strict and formal cause I don’t wanna tarnish my mother’s name. I mean, she did take me off the streets when I was only a baby, so it only seemed right to repay her kindness with exceptional performance.”

“Maaaaan, and here everyone thought the Schnees had it easy just cause they’re rich. Even I thought so, but it isn’t, is it?”

“Not in the slightest.”

“Hm. Well for the record, I think the real you is pretty cool,” Neon said with a smile and a nudge against his shoulder.

“O-oh well, thank you.”

“Anytime. And just so you know, if you ever feel like partying again,” she snatched his scroll from his pocket and quickly inserted her scroll number in it, “You know where to find me,” she said, handing it back to him with a wink. (y/n) too his scroll back in a bit of a daze, “Thanks Neon, I guess I’ll hold you to that.”

“Oh you better~. You’re actually pretty good at partying, I’ve never seen anyone keep up with me like that, under the influence or not.”

“Heh, guess I’m just full of surprises.” Then his scroll rang and he turned a bit pale, “Oh no, I think I know who that is,” he pulled out his scroll and cringed from the name displayed on the screen, “Yup, it’s my mom.”

“Oh boy.” The two exited the noisy club to the more quiet streets for (y/n) to answer his scroll, “Hello?” he said after accepting the call, “Oh mother, hello. . . . . I’m truly sorry about this, I was . . . spending time with a friend and I’m afraid I lost track of time . . . . . All right then, I’ll see you in a little bit then. Thank you, I love you. Bye.” He hung up and ran his fingers through his hair, “Darn it, my mom’s a little mad over the fact that I’m not at home yet.”

“Ooooohhhh, sorry about that.”

“Hey, you have nothing to be sorry for, I can’t remember the last time I did something fun with a friend.” The word “friend” caught Neon off guard, “Huh? We’re friends?”

“Why not? It’s not every day someone such as yourself lets me be me. That qualifies for us to be friends in my book.”

“Friends huh?” Neon found herself smiling, “I like the sound of that.”

“Then I’ll be seeing you around Neon,” (y/n) gave her a little, two-fingered salute and after tugging on his jacket walked through the streets to get home. Neon watched his retreating figure until he was no longer in sight, and then smiled to herself, “(y/n) huh? Can’t wait for our next meeting!”

~0~

(y/n) walked through the halls of Atlas Academy, it was the day the students would be shadowing a Huntsman and he volunteered as one of the Huntsmen who would be helping with this event. Meanwhile, Neon was looking through the missions on the monitor with her team, her leader Flynt was the one flipping through the missions until one caught her eye, “Wait!” He stopped scrolling and looked at his kitty friend, “What?”

“Go back one.”

He did.

“Patrol the skies and eliminate Grimm with Commander (y/n)? Heh, this one!”

“But we’ll be in a ship; didn’t you want one that’d allow you to use your skates?”

“Oh, I’ll make this little exception.”

Neon and her team walked out to the courtyard where everyone else was meeting up with their Huntsmen for their first mission. There (y/n) looked down at his scroll when it informed him that a team had selected him.

“Oh? Team FNKI huh? Interesting sounding team for Atlas Academy.”

“Hey (y/n)!” a familiar voiced called out to him. He looked up to be greeted by his new Faunus friend walking up to him with her team.

“Neon?” he said with surprise laced in his voice, but then he has a knowing smile, “Of course you’d belong to a team called FNKI.”

“Got a problem with that?”

“Nah, in fact it really suites you.”

“Oh? Heh, thanks.” After she introduced him to the rest of her team, everyone boarded the airship, which (y/n) piloted himself and they took off into the air.

“So Commander, what’s on the schedule today?” Flynt, a guy who looked like a jazz trumpeter, asked (y/n) after about five minutes of flying.

“Well, I was going to have just a routine check of the skies for Grimm in a certain area, but since it’s you guys, how about something a little more fun?”

This certainly intrigued Neon, “Ooohhh~ Like what?”

“Just hang on to your tail, we’re gonna have a little fun~.” (y/n) continued to fly the ship until he came across a mountainous area with plenty of Nevermores flying about. He switched the ship into autopilot and spoke to the students, “Now then, we are going to have a little contest.”

“Contest?” Neon questioned.

“Yeah. In addition, I am even gonna throw in a prize, this ship is going to fly right through that flock of Nevermores, and we’re gonna go out to the aerial landing field and eliminate as many as we can. I’ll be out there also fighting my own, but if there’s someone out there would can destroy more than I can, that person will be getting a reward.”

“What is it?” Flynt asked, already being pumped for the challenge.

“That will be revealed if any of you can beat me, and no cheating, I’ll still be keeping an eye on you kids.”

“Hey, you’re the same age as us!” another member of team FNKI argued.

“Yet I’m the one with the title of ‘commander’ in this group, and in case you’ve forgotten, you guys chose to shadow me for your first mission.” The student sulked, but didn’t say anything more. Everyone readied his or her weapons before going out to the aerial landing field.

“Oh, and one more thing,” (y/n) added before everyone’s eyes turned to him, “Don’t fall to your deaths~ It wouldn’t look good if I actually let the trainee’s die on a mission.” With that he leaped up high into the air and landed right on a Nevermore overhead, riding it like a wild bull as it tried to get him off its’ back.

“This dude is crazy!” Flynt commented loudly as he ducked to avoid the talons of the Grimm, “But I dig it.”

“Oh I do too~,” Neon agreed, snapping her glow-stick nunchakus to glow blue and activate their ice dust. While Neon really wanted the prize, whatever it was, it was hard to concentrate on eliminating Grimm when (y/n) was in action. She was able to see that his Semblance was speed, as he almost practically disappeared when he finished off a Grimm and went to the next one while still in the air. He was wild up there, wielding his gun blade with flare and whooping and hollering as he attacked the overgrown black birds with a huge grin on his face. Never had she seen him look so carefree and actually happy, besides that one night at the dance club, he’s always so stiff and formal, polite to his superiors and firm on the underlings. Neon knew that she was seeing the true (y/n), the side of him that he is forced to lock away for the sake of appearances, and to be honest, she really liked it.

“Man, that guy really is out of his mind,” Flynt said, playing his trumpet against some Grimm.

“Oh who cares!? When can you remember the last time we had this much fun while in school?” Neon said, icing a Nevermore’s wing.

“Hm, I guess you have a point there,” he admitted. After a long while of just letting loose, the Nevermore numbers dwindled in the single digits, that’s when the few that survived flew away for the sake of their lives. (y/n), a bit out of breath but still standing straight, said, “Great job team FNKI! So tally time, who’s got the most?”

Everyone said a number and (y/n) chuckled, “Too bad, I got forty-five~.” All eyes went wide at the young commander.

“Whhhaaaattt!!?” Neon cried out in complete shock, “That’s . . . . . amazing!! You’re so freaking awesome (y/n)!” He chuckled and rubbed the back of his head, “Heh, I do my best~.”

For the rest of the day, (y/n) just flew over mountainous ranges with team FNKI hanging out on the aerial landing field, enjoying the thrill and freedom of flying outside the ship. Upon arriving back at Atlas Academy, team FNKI gave their most heart-filled thanks for the good time (y/n) showed them.

“Anytime students,” (y/n) said, keeping professional appearances as he was back on campus. They thanked him again and left for their dorms, well, Neon lingered behind, looking expectedly at (y/n).

“Need something Miss Katt?” (y/n) asked when he realized she wasn’t going with her team.

“Oh drop the formalities, no one is around.”

“You never know who might just be walking by.”

“Fine fine, anyway, there’s this huge dance festival coming up in the town nearby this weekend, I was hoping that maybe you’d be up for it.” (y/n) was just about to give his answer when a stern voice called out to him from behind, “Captain (l/n)!” It was Ironwood. (y/n) turned around, stood at attention, and saluted, “General Ironwood, sir!”

“At ease solider. I trust your mission with the students went well?”
“Indeed sir, the area was cleared of many Grimm today.”

“Good to hear,” Ironwood glanced over at Neon, “You’re dismissed for the day student, you should back in your dorm resting.”

“Oh! Right, well . . . . uhhhh, good day sirs!” she said with a sloppy salute and walked briskly away, wondering what (y/n)’s answer would have been to her question.

~0~

The Vytal Festival was certainly an event every school in Remnant looked forward to participating. (y/n) was especially ecstatic that he was the one chosen to fly the Atlas teams to Vale for the event. He looked over the list of the students that would be attending and smiled upon seeing Team FNKI on the list.

“Heh, can’t wait to see their fight,” he said to himself.

Upon arriving to Vale, (y/n) did a headcount as every student exited the aircraft. When he was finished, (y/n) decided to head to the fairgrounds after changing from his uniform into his casual attire. Wandering the fairgrounds was a total blast for him, now that he didn’t have his uniform, everyone just greeted him with a smile and he was free to be himself, at least as long as Ironwood wasn’t around. After getting some cotton candy from a stall, he turned and bumped into something that felt familiar.

“Hey (y/n)!!” Neon greeted, and without even thinking glomped him fully, making (y/n) stumbled a bit backwards against the cotton candy stall.

“Whoa! Neon!?”

“Hey (y/n)!!” she said, nuzzling her face into his chest. (y/n) blushed lightly from the intimate contact from the cat Faunus, then he grinned small and patted her head with his free hand, “It’s good to see you too Neon.”

“Heh heh.” After (y/n) was released from Neon’s hold, she sneakily took a chunk of his cotton candy and popped it into her mouth.

“Mmmmmm~.”

“Hey! That was mine!”

“Too bad~.”

“If you wanted one you could’ve just asked you know.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I mean, we’re friend after all, aren’t we?”

“Awwwww (y/n)! You’re the best!” (y/n) was just about to order another one for her when the vendor had one all ready to go, “Here son, it’s on the house for your cute little girlfriend.” (y/n)’s face rivaled the pink confection being presented to him.

“H-huh!? Sh-she’s not my- ooff!!” something that felt like an elbow jabbed his side.

“Thank you so much!” Neon squealed, taking the sweet puff on a stick into her hands and eagerly bit into it, grabbing (y/n)’s free hand with her own and skipped away with him. While (y/n) was a bit self-conscious with her holding his hand, he wanted to find the underlying cause of her little attack on him at the cotton candy stall.

“Oi, why’d you jab me like that back there?”

“There was no way I was letting you spill the truth and not get my free cotton candy. If you ask me, I pretty much did you a favor.”

“I’ll have you know that my job as captain of the Atlas Air Fleet pays me very well.”

“Yeah yeah, and you’ve got your mom to back you up I bet.”

“Hey, I made it a point for her to stop giving me money after I got my job.”

“Oooo, looking out for her I see, you’re such a mama’s boy~?”

“You got a problem with that?”

“Nah, I just think it’s kinda cute.”

“C-cute!?”

“Yup!” Neon stopped walking and positioned herself right next to (y/n). He wasn’t sure what she was up to until he felt something long and furry wrap around his feathered tail. Looking back he saw that Neon had done a “tail hug” with his and her tails.

“Wh-what the-!?”

“Oh yeah, cute indeed~.”

“H-hey! That’s very sensitive you know!”

“Trust me, I know, mine’s the same~.”

(y/n) endured the ten seconds of Neon coiling her tail up and down his until she finally released him from her tail’s hold.

“Hehe, you should’ve seen your face.”

“Shut up.”

After that scenario, the two just chatted about mundane things and munched on their cotton candy.

“You seriously got bitten twice by a King Taigu and lived!?” Neon exclaimed.

“Yup,” (y/n) held his head up proudly as he chewed on his cotton candy stick, “Although it was really hard to explain to my mother why I wasn’t feeling well.”

“Why would you hide that? I mean, it’s so amazing!”

“Then I’d have to explain what I’ve been doing in my free time, I really don’t think she’d approve of it.”

“There you go again with the whole ‘approving’ thing. From what I heard, Miss Schnee took you in despite what her own father would think and that you were a Faunus, don’t you think that maybe she’s be ok with your own, wild personality?”

“I really don’t know, and I’d rather not find out. She did take me off the streets after all, I wouldn’t want to disappoint her like that.”

Neon let out an exaggerated sigh, “Oh my gosh, would you stop it with that!? I said it once and I’ll say it again: Who cares!? That’s the real you, and for the record, it’s so much more likeable than your other rigid self that you’re always displaying for everyone.”

“. . . . . You really think so?”
“I know so! And I’m very sure your mom would like to hear about this whole new side of you.”

“I’m not sure about that, however, I’ll give it a shot sometime in the future.”

“Feh, good enough.”

Soon after, it was getting dark and the fairgrounds were becoming emptier and emptier as people turned in for the night.

“Well, we’d better get back to our dorms,” (y/n) states, stretching his arms out.

“Yeah, I’ll see you around right?”

“Of course, I am pretty much in charge of you guys, so it’ll be in my best interest to keep a close eye on you.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

~0~

(y/n) was on the lookout for Neon after her second match with Flynt. She and he had actually lost to a pair of Beacon students and he was hoping that she was not feeling too down because of it. Eventually he found her in the school’s courtyard, taking some laps around the smooth, stone ground on her roller blades.

“Neon!” he called out to her. She stopped and turned back to him with a grin on her face, “Oh hey (y/n), did you see my match!?”

“Uhhh yeah, you’re taking the defeat rather well.”

“Cause I was defeated in a burst of fireworks! I can’t think of any other way to be beat. Plus, that Yang girl is pretty cool when I think about it.”

“Well, that’s actually really responsible thinking you have there Neon.”

“And you expected otherwise?”

“Given your personality, yes.”

“Hey! I can act mature when the time calls for it!”

“Which is hardly then.”

“Why you!” Neon pulled out her glow stick nun chucks, activating them by give them a little bend, “Let’s see how you like it when I turn you into a humansicle!”

(y/n) smirked widely, “You’re gonna have to catch me first~,” and with that he took off faster than Nora can eat pancakes (which mind you, is fast).

“Hey! Get back here!” The two did their little game of cat and bird throughout the courtyard, the students around them raising an eyebrow at their antics. (y/n) ran up onto the top of pillars and the decorations in the area, but got the surprise of his life when he saw that Neon was right on his tail, literally. Gaining some ground on him, Neon reached out and grabbed his tail, yanking him backwards. However, he had not anticipated this and practically flew backwards right onto her, making them both land on the hard ground with (y/n) on top of her.

“Ow ow, oi, that really hur-.” (y/n) stopped himself after seeing the position he and Neon were in. She looked up at him with a rather huge blush on her face, now that he was this close to her; she was able to see his facial features much better now.

“Wow,” she said without thinking.

“Huh?”

Neon caught on to what she had blurted out and quickly stuttered out, “N-n-n-nothing!”

“Hm,” (y/n) was curious, but decided not to press any further. He got up and held out a hand to Neon, to which she shyly took and wobbled a bit due to being in skates and her jumbled up thoughts. (y/n) was just about to say something, until his scroll rang.

“Ugh!” he quickly answered it, “Hello? Oh General Ironwood . . . . . Yes I’ll be right there,” he hung up, “Gotta get going, the general needs me again.”

“Yeah ok, see you around then.”

(y/n) nodded in response and went his way, leaving Neon feeling like there was something missing.

~0~

(y/n) couldn’t believe his eyes, Grimm everywhere in both the skies and the ground. He was currently in his airship, giving commands to his soldiers and flying the ship.

“Status!” he said to his co-pilot.

“Everything is running smoothly sir, while we may have a few dents; no critical damage has been done to the ship.”

“Good, just focus in flying straight.”

“Yes sir.”

(y/n) looked over through the window and noticed another one of the ships suddenly turning, facing his ship.

“What’s going on over there?” he asked no one. Then he saw the cannons of the ship lock onto his, his breath hitched and his heart almost stopped.

“Everyone brace your-.” He was never able to finish that sentence; the opposing ship fired its’ cannon, punching a hole into (y/n)’s ship which made it split in half. Even with all the chaos, (y/n) still tried to give out orders; however, everyone was panicking and years’ worth of solider training was long gone in the commotion. On his half of the ship, he desperately looked around to find a way he could secure a landing for himself. Seeing no other way, he leaped onto a Nevermore and rode it out a bit until it got too wild, that’s when he moved on to the next one and the one after that until he was a safe distance from the ground to free fall his way to earth.

“Whew, definitely more thrilling then the time I rode an Ursa,” he said to himself, dusting his uniform off. Looking around, he saw that he didn’t land far from the school, where a bunch of students were doing what they could to fight off the Grimm and the Atlas drones that seemed to have gone rogue somehow.

“Damnit! How did this happen!?” (y/n) shouted to no one, dodging a few bullets from the mechanical soldiers and firing his own shots from his gunblade. When he finally arrived at the front of the school, he saw Neon and Flynt struggling with a paladin.

“Heads up you two!” he warned as he loaded his gunblade with a magazine containing fire dust. They both looked back and upon seeing him leaped out of the way as (y/n) fired several shots, engulfing the machine in flames and shutting it down. After ensuring that it wasn’t gonna come back up, he walked over to the two students, “You guys ok?”

“I am now that you’re here,” Neon purred, her furry tail reaching for his feathered one.
“Now’s not the time for jokes,” (y/n) said, leaning away from her tail, “This is serious.”

“Fine fine.”

(y/n) looked over at Flynt, “Where’s the rest of your team?”

“They’re fine, we just got separated during the commotion, but they’ve kept in touch.”

“Good. It seems like things have taken a turn for the worst since our own machines are now attacking us. This really isn’t gonna look good for Atlas.”

“Tell me about it,” Neon agreed.

“Let’s do what we can until someone figures out a way to snap them out of it,” he reloaded his weapon, “Be careful out there you two, and make sure you regroup with the rest of your teammates as soon as possible.”

Flynt nodded.

“And where are you going?” Neon asked.

“I’m gonna find Ironwood, I haven’t heard from him in a while after I saw his ship suddenly go down. I just hope he’s ok.” (y/n) began to run, but was stopped when Neon grabbed his tail, effectively stopping him and getting a yelp of pain from him, “Oi! What was that fo-!?” Neon silenced him by placing her lips over his, giving him a quick kiss before pulling away and looking seriously into his eyes, “Don’t you dare die out there, you still have a dance party to go to with me.”

(y/n) blushed heavily, but soon got his senses back and smiled at her, “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” He pecked her on the forehead and ran off in search of his commander. Neon giggled to herself like the love-struck school girl she was, Flynt rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless, “Come on, you heard the dude, we’ve gotta stay alive, you especially if you wanna make that dance party.”

“Trust me, we’re both gonna rock that dance floor!” Neon proclaimed, skating towards another group of Grimm.

(y/n) let loose on the Grimm that came his way, sparing nothing in his way. Eventually, he was finally able to locate his superior in the middle of the city, a bit beaten up from his crash landing, but otherwise ok. He was with two other adults (y/n) made out to be a teacher named Glynda, a teacher at Beacon, and a Huntsman named Qrow.

“General Ironwood!” he called out as he ran to them. Ironwood turned, “(y/n)!?” (y/n) gave him a quick salute, “Why are you alone? Where’s the rest of your crew?”

(y/n)’s head hung, “I-I’m afraid I don’t know sir, one of our own ships just opened fire on us, I tried to keep order, but everyone was just far too panicked to listen. I had no choice, it was either stick around and die or save myself and live.”

Ironwood sighed deeply, “Well, you did what you could, that’s all I could ever ask of you.”

“So what now General?”

“Someone has done the impossible and gained control of the machines; we need to find out who did it and how to stop it.”

In the distance (y/n) saw a ship crash land nearby, making the earth tremble a little, then almost instantly every robot stopped working, shut down.

“Well, that was easy,” (y/n) said with a small chuckle.

“Very well, Qrow, Glynda, (y/n), come with me.”

“Yes sir!”

The three ran to the fallen airship, rummaging through what was left of it. That’s when (y/n) caught sight of a scroll, it’s screen cracked and an image of a chess piece flickering on and off it.

“General Ironwood! I think I found something!”

“What is it?”

(y/n) showed him the scroll and Ironwood let out a growl, “Of course, how could I have missed this?”

“What is it?”

“It’s a virus, surely planted by the one who orchestrated this attack.”

“I see.”

“Well this solves that mystery, (y/n), go back and ensure the safety of the students.”

“Yes sir!”  But as (y/n) turned to follow orders, an ultra-bright light shone from the top of Beacon Tower, What the!?” It was so bright, not even closing his eyes helped to keep the intensity of the light out of them. When it faded, (y/n) noticed Qrow heading straight for the tower.

“Where’s he going?”

“I’m sure he has his reasons, now (y/n), your orders.”

“Oh! Yes sir!”

For the next few hours, (y/n) worked tirelessly on helping both students and civilians get to the airships. By the time everything settled down, (y/n) was too tired to even lift his weapon. Boarding the ship that was to take the Atlas students, he slumped into a chair, groaning from his aching body.

“(y/n)!?” an almost desperate voice rang out in the ship. (y/n) just barely looked up to feel someone wrap his or her arms around his neck, “Oh thank the celestial beings you’re ok!”

(y/n) smiled tiredly and hugged Neon back, “Glad to see you’re ok too Neon.” Students nearby were murmuring some things along the lines of “Should the captain of the air fleet be hugging a student like that?”, but (y/n) didn’t care, not anymore. Neon pulled back and took her face into her hands, “Oh gosh, you’re all beaten up, are you ok?”

“I’m fine Neon, just exhausted. How are you holding up?”

“I’m ok, I had Flynt with me after all.”

“Good.”

Not caring that they were being watched, Neon pressed her lips against (y/n)’s, earning a few gasps or “aws” from the people around them. This time (y/n) responded by holding the back of her head, pulling her even closer. After pulling away, Neon gently sat down in his lap and cuddles up against his chest, to which he reacted by wrapping an arm around her shoulders, holding her close.

“Think you’ll be well enough for the dance party this weekend?”

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world~.”

Even with the fall of Beacon being know all throughout Remnant, people still tried to look past this and keep things hopeful. Having said that, (y/n) and Neon were having a blast at the dance party happening at one of the clubs back at Atlas. Everyone really needed this to help remind him or her that even with this catastrophe, they should still try to find ways to find happiness and stay positive.

(y/n) spun Neon out in a twirl and pulled her back against his chest as the song ended, both winded from dancing for so long they headed to the bar for a cool drink.

“Man, I really can’t remember the last time I had this much fun,” (y/n) breathed, sipping his lemonade.

“Glad to see you’re finally showing your true colors. And trust me, I know colors~.”

“Heh heh.”

The Neon turned the conversation to a more serious note, “So what will you do now?”

“I’ve decided to finally get out there and make a difference in the world. My mother tried to get me to join her, but I opened up to her and she actually took it well, saying that I had nothing to be ashamed of.”

“See!? I told you,” Neon playfully slapped him behind the head.

“Heh heh. So what about you?”

“Well, I kinda gave it some thought and I finally came to a decision.”

“Hm?”

Neon latched herself around his neck as they touched noses, “I’m coming with you whether you like it or not.”

(y/n) rolled his eyes but couldn’t stop himself from grinning, “I should’ve seen this coming.”

“Yup, so you’re gonna be stuck with me.”

“That doesn’t sound too bad. However, are you sure? It’s gonna be super dangerous.”

“’Danger’ is my middle name.”

“Fine then,” (y/n) wrapped his arms around her waist, “It’s gonna be you and me against the world.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

They shared a heated kiss right then and there, both looking forward to the wild times they would be having, only this time they would be sharing it with someone special.
