“(y/n)!! (Y/N)!!? Come on! Wake up!!”

“Ugh . . . . oh che fanno male,” she mumbled, rubbing the back of her head. She opened her eyes and saw Ezio towering over her.

“Ezio?” she said.

“Oh grazie a Dio you’re alright.” Ezio pulled her up and enveloped her in a tight hug. (y/n) was too confused to hug him back.

“Huh? What’s going on?” Ezio released the hug to look at (y/n), “You were knocked out by the soldiers.”

“Well that explains the pain in the back of my head. But what happened after that?”

“I can answer that,” Annetta came forward from the back of the room, where Claudia and Maria resided, shocked and scared.

“The soldiers got into the house and arrested Ser Giovanni, then they knocked you out and arrested Federico and Petruccio as well.”

“What!? Federico and Petruccio too!?” (y/n) bolted to her feet before stumbling a little, still woozy from the hit behind her head. Ezio held her shoulders to steady her.

“Careful (y/n), you were hit pretty hard.” He turned to Annetta, “Where did they take my father and brothers?”

“They took them to the Palazzo della Signoria-to prison.”

“Cosa!” (y/n) cried, almost feeling weak from the news that her soon-to-be-fiancé was in prison along with her soon-to-be-father-in-law and soon-to-be-brother-in-law.

“I must get to the bottom of this,” Ezio asked Annetta, “It’s not safe here, is there someplace you can take them?”

“Yes. Yes! To my sister’s!”

“Good. Do that.” Maria and Claudia joined Annetta to be taken to safety, but (y/n) stood in her place.

“(y/n), go with Annetta, in the mean time I’ll go see my father.”

“I can’t do that.”

“What?”

“You know me Ezio, I’m not going to just stand by while the ones I love are in prison.”

“But this is serious (y/n), you could get hurt, or even killed.”

“Ezio, that’s enough, I’m coming with you and that’s that!”

“Ugh, you ragazza testarda. Alright, but stay close.”

Under the cover of night, the duo channeled their climbing skills to scale the walls of the prison, this time it wasn’t for fun though, this was the real thing, if they got caught, they themselves will be put in prison. Guards surrounded the prison, but that didn’t stop either Ezio or (y/n), having fought most of her life, she easily beat them up as well as Ezio did. Ezio examined the bared windows up on a tower, he saw his father’s figure in one of them.

“I see my father, I’ll go talk to him.”

“I’m going to look for Federico and Petruccio.”

“Ok, just stay on your guard.”

“Got it.” (y/n) climbed one of the sides of the tower and up to one of the bared windows. To her luck, there was Ezio’s two brothers. Federico looked a bit beaten up, but Petruccio was fine, clinging to his brother from fear. (y/n) hoisted herself into a comfortable position, gripped the bars hard so she wont fall, and quietly called to them.

“Federico! Petruccio.” The brothers turned their heads at her way and looked at her like she was an angel sent from heaven.

“(y/n),” Federico breathed, walking up to the window with his brother right beside him.

“(y/n)!” Petrucio cried with joy.

“Hey piccolo. I would pat your head, but I gotta make sure I don’t fall,” she said with a slight chuckle.

“Oh (y/n),” Federico took her face and kissed her through the bars, “I was so scared when that guard knocked you out.”

“I’m here now Federico. It’s going to be ok.” Federico had a look filled with sorrow.

“I don’t think so (y/n), something’s telling me that we wont be able to get out of this one.”

“Ehi! Don’t say that!”

“I’m sorry (y/n), we’ve been able to get out of big trouble before, but this seems too big to get out of.”

“Federico! Keep talking like that and I wont marry you!” (y/n) hissed, hoping to get him to look at the bright side, if there was one that is.

“Ah (y/n), how I wish we could get married right now and start a family. You would’ve been a wonderful mother, just as long as you don’t teach your rough ways to your children.”

“Ehi, it’s thanks to my rough ways that we met.”

“Heh, I wont deny that.”

“And she still has to teach me how to climb walls!” Petruccio butted in.

“Si. I promised. And Federico, when we get you, Petruccio, and your father out of this, you better propose to me properly.” Federico sighed deeply, knowing that (y/n) was trying to shed some light into this dark moment.

“(y/n), take care of Ezio, that idiota needs a woman like you in his life,” he stroked her cheek lovingly, “you are a true diamond in the rough.”

“Federico . . . . . please . . don’t talk like tha-” Noises where heard from behind the prison door.

“The guards!” Petruccio cried, clinging to his brother.

“Go (y/n)!” Federico kissed (y/n) once more, with all the love and passion he had.

“Federico, I wont-”

“Go now!” (y/n) let go of the bars and allowed herself to fall into a huge pile of hay that was located under her. She emerged from the pile and shook the hay out of her clothes. Walking to the other side, she saw that Ezio too had come back down from the tower.

“Did you manage to get any information?” she asked, her hopes high.

“We have to go, I’ll explain on the way.”

~0~

“So we just have to get these documents and a letter to this Messer Uberto, and they’ll be free?”

“That’s what I’m hoping for,” Ezio said as he and (y/n) walked cautiously through the dark streets, back to his house. When they arrived, Ezio searched for something that couldn’t be seen with the normal eye.

“Father said there was a door here . . .” he said, scanning his father’s office.

“Huh? Where?” (y/n) squinted her eyes and tried to concentrate, then suddenly, her vision flashed black, only the few lights that illuminated the house was seen in her vision.

'Huh? What’s this?'

She looked at Ezio and almost yelped. He was glowing blue in her sight.

'Wha-!? What is this!?'

She then looked at the back of the room and couldn’t help but to notice something was off. Ezio seemed to have noticed as well, for he walked towards the back. He touched the wall and instantly, the wall lowered itself, revealing a secret room.

“What is this?” she asked, her vision going back to normal.

“We’re about to find out,” Ezio answered, entering the room first with (y/n) behind him. The room seemed normal, nothing really special, but in the back, there was a big chest. Ezio walked over to it and opened it. He pulled out what looked like an assassin uniform. (y/n) silently gasped at the sight, her mother and father would tell her tale after tale of the assassins, about how they would hide in plain sight, kill stealthy, and lived by their creed. Ezio began to strip some of his clothing to put on the uniform, and when he began to pull down his pants to change into the assassin pants, (y/n) looked away. Ezio noticed and decided to have a little fun.

“What (y/n)? Don’t you want to see the show?”

“Ugh! You’re just as bad as your brother!!” (y/n) yelled. Ezio chuckled and continued to change.

“I’m finished (y/n).”

“If you’re playing around with me again-” (y/n) warned, but when she turned
around, Ezio was completely dressed. Red tinted her cheeks. He looked so
powerful and stunning.

“Wow, Ezio, you look . . . di bell'aspetto."

“Heh, grazie (y/n).” He attached a sword to his belt and continued to rummage through the chest. He then pulled out a blade a bracer with a scroll, and finally a letter.

“I need to bring this to Messer Uberto,” he said, tucking it away in his clothes, “(y/n), I need to go alone this time, it’ll be faster that way.” (y/n) wanted to argue, but she knew that Ezio was right on this one. She held up her hand and traced the silver assassin symbol on Ezio’s belt.

“(y/n)?”

“Ezio, please be careful, if the guards catch you too . . . . . I don’t know what I’ll do.” Ezio took her hand into his, “It’s going to be alright (y/n), I assure you. I’ll be back as soon as I deliver that letter.” He gave a her a quick peck on the forehead before heading out.

“Please, come back to me Ezio.”

~0~

The pounding on the door knocked (y/n) out of her daydreams. She knew that it could be either Ezio, or some guards. She picked up the only thing that can be used as a weapon, a candle holder.

“Who is it?” she asked as she cautiously advanced towards the door.

“It’s me! Ezio!” Sighing with relief, (y/n) dropped the candle holder and ran to open the door.

“Ezio!” she cried, giving him a hug. She looked up and saw that it was morning, how did she not notice the time passing?

“(y/n), we need to go to the piazza, my father and brothers are going to be tried there, but with the documents I gave Messer Uberto, they’ll be released.” (y/n) felt a huge weight being lifted off her shoulders.

“Oh thank goodness. Let’s go!”

~0~

There was a huge crowd at the piazza for the trying. (y/n) and Ezio were at the very back, trying to get a view of the front. There stood Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio, the ropes around their necks. (y/n) wanted to break into tears from the sight, but she knew that tears will not get them down from there. But then another sight troubled her and Ezio, Messer Uberto was up on the platform.

“Giovanni Auditore, you and your accomplices stand accused of the crime of treason. have you any evidence to counter this charge?”

“What’s going on?” Ezio asked no one, “I gave him those papers last night. Why is he doing this!?” Giovanni tried to remind Uberto of the documents Ezio delivered, but Uberto denied it.

“I’m afraid I know nothing of these documents,” he lied.

“He’s lying!!” Ezio shouted, hoping to be heard, but the people around him were already shouting and drowned his voice out.

“We need to get closer.”

“Way ahead of you.” (y/n) shoved her way to the front. Being smaller then Ezio, she managed to get there first. She looked up at Federico. He scanned the crowd until he lock eyes with hers. Joy was in his eyes when he saw that he would see his love one more time, and mouthed “ti amo” at her. The tears were threatening to spill, but (y/n) held them back.

'Where’s Ezio!? He needs to be up here!'

She tried to find him, but there were too many people blocking her way. Giovanni’s angry shouts caught her attention. She looked back and saw that Uberto was giving the signal for the executioner to drop them. And right before her eyes, they were hung. She felt her body become numb.

'No! This . . . . can’t be.'

“Father!” Ezio screamed. He shoved everyone out of his way, then guards grabbed at him, restraining him.

“I’LL KILL YOU FOR WHAT YOU’VE DONE!!” He shook the guards off and drew his sword.

“Guards! Arrest him!” Uberto ordered. (y/n) then saw a gold armored guard approach Ezio. With his big ax, he easily knocked Ezio’s sword out of his hands, right to her feet. She picked it up and quickly hid in the crowd, still being close to where Ezio was.

“Abbattetelo,” Uberto said.

'Over my dead body!!'

(y/n) felt some new strength sweep over her and she lunged at the guard and ran him through with the sword in between his armor, killing him instantly.

“Ezio! Run!” she yelled, throwing the guard to the side and taking his hand. They both ran from the guards, cutting into corners and climbing up to roofs to loose them. They noticed the guards slowing down and as they rounded a corner, they leaped into a cart of hay and waited. When the footsteps were no longer heard, the two jumped out.

“Oh boy, that was too close,” Ezio said, dusting his clothes. (y/n) was silent, and when she didn’t say anything or agree like she usually would, Ezio was concerned.

“(y/n)? Is something wrong?” All the pent up tears she’s been holding back came flooding out. She sobbed in her hands.

“W-W-Why!? Why did this have to happen!?” she choked out between sobs. Ezio enveloped her in his arms, trying to comfort her. Seeing (y/n) cry was a rare sight, he couldn’t even remember the last time he saw her like this. She didn’t cry easily, not when she went to visit her parent’s grave, not even when she broke her leg from falling. So if she was crying, then she was truly in pain.

“(y/n), this is hard for me as well, but they wouldn’t want us being sad like this. We must be strong.” He wiped some of (y/n)’s tears with his thumb, “You understand?” (y/n) only managed to nod, rubbing her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt.
“Oh there you are!” a voice said. It was Annetta.

“Ser Ezio and Madonna (y/n), thank God! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”

“I . . . . I couldn’t stop them, Annetta. I tried, I swear! But there were so many guards . . . .”

“Please, come with me, both of you. We need to get you off the streets.”

“What of my mother and sister?” Ezio asked, hoping that the last of his family was safe.

“They’re safe. I’ll bring you to them.”

“No! It’s too dangerous for us to travel together. Tell me where to go and we’ll meet you there.”

“My sister’s house, just north of the Duomo.”

“Got it.” Annetta went her way.

“(y/n), I wish I could say go home, but your actions at the piazza will make you as notorious as me. I’m afraid you’ll have to come with me.”

“I don’t care, wherever you go is home.”

“Very well. Oh, and I forgot. Grazie (y/n), you really saved me back there.”

“I really need to charge you for all those saves.”
