“Where on earth are you taking me Rin?” Haruka asked. After he finished instructing the students in the swimming club at his old high school, Rin popped his head and placed a blindfold over his eyes, then grabbing his hand and leading him somewhere, careful to make sure he doesn’t run into poles or step into any holes.

“You’ll see!” Rin said excitedly. Haruka sighed, but couldn’t help but to smile at Rin’s energy. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Rin stopped.

“Ok, we’re here!”

“Here? Where?”

“Oops, sorry.” Haruka felt the cloth being lifted from his eyes. He blinked a few times, trying to adjust to the sudden light. When his vision was cleared, he examined his surroundings. They seemed a bit familiar.

“Rin? Where are we?”

“Oi, don’t tell me your forgot already, here,” Rin bent over and picked up a stick, “maybe this will refresh your memory.” He walked up to a tree and wrote something in the dirt before it.

“Take a look.” Haruka did as he was told and saw three words that would stick to him forever: For The Team. His eyes widened. This was the very spot where he was able to talk some sense into Rin that day of the relays. The day they were a team again.

“Wha-what are we doing here.” Rin fidgeted in his spot for a moment, poking at the dirt with his shoe.

“Well, I kinda wanted to do something in a special place.”

“Do what?” Rin walked up to Haruka until he was only a body away.

“Haru, I’ve been thinking for a long while, and I think it’s finally time I ask.”

“Ask?” Rin reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small box, he then got on one knee, “Haru, every moment spent with you is the best moments of my life. And I want those moments to continue. So, Haruka Nanase,” he opened the box to reveal a gold band, “Will you marry me?”

Haruka’s eyes widened as a hand flew over his mouth as he stared at the gold ring Rin was holding out to him. Through his shock, he was able to nod. Rin smiled big as he stood up and removed the ring from the box.

“Hold out your hand,” Haruka did, and the ring was slipped onto his left ring finger. Rin smiled at Haruka, the kissed him deeply on the lips. When they parted, Haruka asked, “When did you get the ring?”

“Oh yeah, about that . . . . .”

*Flashback to yesterday*

“I wanna marry your son.” (y/n) looked at Rin for a minute, then a smile grew on her face.

“Wait here,” she said, briskly walking to a room. When she returned, she was holding something in her hand.

“Here,” she said, holding out the object. Rin took it and examined it, it was a ring box.

“M-Mrs. Nanase, is this-?”

“Yes, it’s my engagement ring. Haruka’s father gave it to me, but when he found out I was pregnant of him, he just up and left, leaving me. I never wore this again, but I kept it, knowing that it would be of use someday, which is why I didn’t sell it,” she smiled up at him, “so give it to him, seal the deal with my own broken one.” Rin engulfed (y/n) in a firm, but gentle hug.

“Th-thank you, this means so much to me.”

“Happy to help.”

“Your mom really is an awesome woman.”

Haruka’s eyes began to get misty, but he refused to show his tears in front of Rin, who is sure to poke fun at him for it later. He held them back and simply nodded while saying, “Yeah, she sure is.”

“Hm, it’s a good thing you said yes.”

“Why?”

“Well, your mom and I already kinda planned out a little ceremony, we just want your approval on some stuff and we can tie the knot in just a week!”

“Eh!? You and my mom worked together on this!?”

“Heh heh, yup! Surprise.”

“Geez, I sure hope your sneakiness doesn’t rub off on her.”

One week later . . . .

Haruka nervously tried to straightened his tie in the mirror. His black tie was still crooked no matter how hard he tried.

“Having trouble with that?” a voice asked him. He turned around to see his mother in the doorway of his old room.

“U-um . . . . yeah.”

“Haha, here,” she walked over to him and undid the tie, “I’m super at this.” With a few tugs of her fingers, the tie was straight and perfect.

“There you are, so very handsome,” (y/n) said, taking in the sight of her son in his white suite. Both boys had agreed one would wear white and the other black, sadly even (y/n) had to agree Haruka should take the white (representing the bride hahaha!!) Haruka blushed lightly at (y/n)’s words.

“Th-thanks mom.”

She smiled up at him, “Well, you ready?”

Haruka took in a deep breath and nodded, “Well then, let’s go.”

“R-right.”

Haruka lent his arm to (y/n) and she took it, leading him out to the front to her car.

They drove to the beach and after a while found the spot where the little wedding was gonna take place. In a secluded area where they wont be disturbed. Since they couldn’t find a priest willing to marry two men, they had Rei fill in for that, he stood at the madeshift alter in a white robe. A white, long, thin sheet was laid out in the sand that led up to the alter to act as the aisle. and next to it were Makoto with Gou clinging to his arm and on the brink of tears, Nagisa who blew a kiss to Rei, who in turn blushed heavily, and their swim coach and teacher were there as well, both very happy for the boys. And last, but definitely not least, Rin stood by the alter in his black suite, his face showed that he couldn’t believe how handsome Haruka looked in his white suite.

“Ok, here we go dear.”

“M-mom?”

“Hm? Yes?”

“I just want you to know that you’re the best mother a guy can ask for, and I’ll always be there if you need anything.”

(y/n)’s eyes filled with tears, “And I’ll always be there for you and Rin.”

They gave eachother a chaste hug before Gou pressed ‘play’ on her little boom box and the wedding song started. (y/n) walked her son down the aisle and gave him away to his soon-to-be-husband, otherwise known as her soon-to-be-son-in-law. She stood next to their swimming coach and teacher and watched the ceremony begin.

“And now, may I please have the rings?” Rei said after the beginning of his speech. Gou handed Rin a golden band, the same one he used to propose, Haruka really didn’t mind since Rin wasn’t really stocked up on cash at the moment.

“Now repeat after me.” (I’m not writing this twice, so pretend he’s also repeating it as well)

“I, Rin Matsuoka, take you, Haruka Nanase, to be my husband and before God and these witnesses I promise to be a faithful and true husband.”

He slipped on Haruka’s ring and Gou blew her nose, “My big brother’s all grown up!”

“Now you Haruka.”

(y/n) walked up to him and handed him a silver band.

“I, Haruka Nanase, take you, Rin Matsuoka, to be my husband and before God and these witnesses i promise to be a faithful and true husband.”

He put on Rin’s ring.

“Rin Matsuoka, do you take Haruka Nanase to be your beloved husband until death do you part?”

Rin flashed his signature, shark-toothy smile, “I do.”

“And do you, Haruka Nanase, take Rin Matsuoka to be your beloved husband until death do you part?”

Haruka gave a small, shy grin, “I do.”

“Then by the power infested in me, I hereby dub thee husband and husband, you may kiss him.”

Rin pulled at Haruka and gave him a huge, passionate kiss. Everyone else cheered. This was truly a wonderful wedding.

Three years later . . . . .

“Hey mom!!” Rin shouted through the house.

“Oh Rin dear, hello there.”

“Sorry for barging in like this mom, but Rin suggested we come by and bring you the good news.”

“Good news?”

Both boys stood aside and in walked in a little girl, no older then three. She wore an adorable pink sundress and on her head were white ribbons tying her hair into two cute pigtails.

“Rin wanted children of his own, so we adopted,” Haruka explained with his small grin, “you’re a grandma now.”

(y/n) covered her mouth with her hands, right on the brink of tears. The little girl looked up at Haruka, “Father, is that grandma?” she asked in a high-pitched voice.

“Yes, go on, say hi.”

The little girl walked up to (y/n) and waved a small hand at her, “Um, hi grandma.”

“Oh she’s beautiful!” (y/n) cried, scooping up her granddaughter into her arms and swinging her around in the air, much to her delight, “what’s her name?”

“Mimi,” Rin answered

“Oh such an adorable name for a adorable girl!!”

For the rest of the day the four spent it together in (y/n)’s house. (y/n) and Mimi baked cookies and ate them with her fathers, (y/n) told stories about Mimi’s father and daddy, including the most embarrassing ones she could remember, much to Rin and Haruka’s embarrassment. (y/n) found some of Haruka’s old toys to keep Mimi occupied while she and the boys caught up on stuff. Eventually Mimi got tired and fell asleep while playing with a toy horse.

“Heh, looks like the little princess is all tired out,” Rin said, picking up his daughter, “guess we better get going.”

“Please come by and visit again sometime, it’s been so long since I’ve had a child to dot on.”

“Will do mom!”

“You go and get Mimi strapped in, I’ll meet you in the car.”

“Sure but you better hurry, or I might just leave without you.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” Haruka said, narrowing his eyes. Rin gave him a quick kiss, “Course not, I’d get lonely without you.”

Haruka blushed and turned his head, “Just go.”

“Alright! Later mom!”

“Shush, you’re gonna wake her up!!”

“Oh sorry.”

“Goodbye Rin, until next time!”

When Rin left the house, Haruka face his mother.

“Mom?”

“Hm?”

He enveloped her in a big hug that almost caught her by surprise.

“H-Haruka?”

“I just want to say thank you so much, for everything, for accepting me the way I am, and accepting Rin and Mimi into our family.”

“Oh Haruka,” (y/n) hugged her son back, “It’s a mother’s duty to accept her children just the way they are. I wouldn’t change you for the world, and I love Rin and Mimi as well, I’m sure she’ll grow up to be a fine young woman. Just as long as she doesn’t pick op our obsession with water.”

Haruke lightly chuckled and released the hug.

“Well, they’re waiting for me.”

(y/n) stroked his cheek, “Go to them Haruka, go to your new family.”

Haruka leaned in and gave his mother a kiss on the forehead.

“See you later mom, and thanks again.”

“It’s nothing, my son.”

Fifteen years later . . . . .

Haruka walked through the graveyard, a bouquet of roses in one hand, his daughter’s holding his hand in the other. (y/n) was right, Mimi had grown up into a fine young lady, although she too had caught the water fever from her father. Now an eighteen-year-old, just graduated highschool and was on her way to college to study nursing. Haruka seemed the same, only signs of age was appearing on him, but he was still able to swim almost as well as he did when he was in highschool. They finally found the right stone hedge.

“Hey mom, sorry it’s been a while since I visited, things have been crazy lately and I wasn’t able to come,” he said, laying the flowers down in front of the grave stone.

“Hello grandma, long time no see, I got accepted to the college I wanted to, just wait, soon I’ll be taking care of the sick and needy!”

“Sorry Rin can’t be here,” Haruka continued, “he’s at work and they gave him a double shift, much to his annoyance. But he says hi.”

Haruka couldn’t take it anymore, he fell to his knees and cried bitterly into his hands, his daughter knelt by him, holding his shoulders.

“She was still so full of life,” he said between his cries. Mimi’s tears slowly rolled down her cheeks, “I know, but she’s free from all the pain she went through at the hospital, she’s in a better place now.”

“I know . . . . . but . . . . I can’t see her smile . . . hear her words of wisdom . . . or hug her anymore . . . .”

“Father . . . .” Mimi leaned in and rested her head on Haruka’s shoulder as she lightly embraced him, “grandma wouldn’t want you to drown on your sorrow like this, she would want you to be happy, and enjoy your life. Wouldn’t she?”

Haruka rubbed at his eyes, a little embarrassed at how childish he must’ve looked, “You know . . . . you’re right, sorry about that.”

“There’s no need, you’re only human after all.”

“Heh, when did you learn to be so wise?”

Mimi reached out and touched the tombstone, “I learned from the best.” Haruka let the faintest of smiles cross his lips as his daughter helped him to feet.

“Goodbye mom, thank you for always accepting me for who I am. I’ll see you later.”

Haruka and his daughter linked arms and walked away from the grounds of the cemetery. Little did they know a young woman lingering behind a certain tombstone, one of the roses in her hands, smiling at the two walking away, looking forward to the day they’ll visit again.

Haruka looked back, surprised to see one of the roses missing, but he smiled and quietly said, “I’m glad you like them.”
